Simuflight's Year-End Reflection 2023

Welcome to Simuflight’s Year-End Reflection 2023! As we take a moment to look back on the aviation training landscape, this post delves into key industry trends and highlights that defined the year.

Reflecting on the Dynamic Year: 2023!

Global Training Integration

In the third year post-pandemic, we seamlessly integrated training on a global scale.

Resurgence of B200 Ratings

Noteworthy is the resurgence of B200 ratings, marking a distinct trend in our training programs.

Popularity of RNAV Courses

Our RNAV courses gained substantial popularity, reflecting the industry’s evolving demands.

Transformation of B1900 Initial Rating Course

The B1900 initial rating course underwent a significant transformation, offering pilots the choice between using the aircraft or the full-motion simulator for their skills test at the end of the type rating course.

Aircraft Testing Option

The aircraft testing option is particularly popular, chosen for its practical advantages.

New Leadership: Bill Good (DFE1)

Later in the year, Bill Good (DFE1) assumed the role of our new Head of Training, bringing fresh perspectives and expertise.

Gratitude to Dean Smith

We express gratitude to Dean Smith for his tenure as Head of Training over the past couple of years until Bill took over. Dean, thank you for your dedicated years and for leaving a lasting legacy.

Executive Team Expansion

Chris Erasmus joined the executive team as CFI, working as Bill’s right-hand, contributing to our leadership strength.

Front Desk Reinforcement: Nandipha (Nandi) Sitsha

Nandipha (Nandi) Sitsha joined Simuflight’s team as the front desk receptionist and has made the position her own in the last 4 months, enhancing our customer service.

Smooth Transition: Dewan van Niekerk

Dewan van Niekerk smoothly transitioned to the training coordinator position, effortlessly filling Raymond’s shoes after he left to pursue his pilot career.

Engineering Triumph: B1900 Aircraft Flight Data Project

Our engineering team successfully completed a unique, interesting, and challenging project—gathering and analyzing B1900 aircraft flight data for a European customer. The obtained results now contribute to developing and implementing a turboprop flight model on the client’s new FNPT II MCC simulator.

Project Timeline Commitment

The team is diligently working to meet the current simulator project timeline targets before we close for the festive season.

Operational Excellence: Solar System

Operationally, our solar system continues to yield excellent results, surpassing our expectations in reliability and efficiency. This has translated into enhanced training continuity despite load shedding.

Building Facelift

Simuflight’s building received a fresh look with a front façade facelift using cladding, enhancing our physical presence.

Weathering the Storm: November Hailstorm

Intense weather in November, in the form of a hailstorm, caused damage to parts of our roof, affecting the office substantially. The roof was repaired the very next day, thanks to our insurance broker’s fast response. This ensured training could continue as normal since the simulator and lecture rooms were unaffected. The remaining damage will be addressed early in the new year.

Year-End Reflection

This has undoubtedly been a busy year. We are eager for a well-deserved break and invite all our customers to pre-book training courses for January.

All Systems Go in the New Year

From the 4th, it will be all systems go… until then, have a very blessed festive season and an energetic/positive start to the new year!
