Simuflight therefore provides advanced training for a multitude of students from across the globe and holds approvals from many Civil Aviation Authorities.
- First company in the world to obtain an aviation authority approval for a PC based flight simulator in 1995
- Together with the aviation authority pioneered the approved use of static flight simulators to renew instrument flight ratings in the early 2000’s
- Leading the industry representative team that in collaboration with the aviation authority pioneered and developed a framework for the approved use of static type specific flight simulators for training towards obtaining aircraft type ratings as well as type specific pilot proficiency checks in 2019.
Our vision is to make a significant contribution to flight standards and flight safety not only in South Africa but also in Africa as a whole.
Our dedicated and passionate staff, high standards and airline quality instructors assures service excellence to each and every student.
Simuflight specialises in Beechcraft King Air 1900, 200 and Cessna Caravan C208 initial type ratings, and will be adding Pilatus PC12 training to its list.
We also offer Pilot Proficiency Checks / Instrument Flight Revalidations, Command Upgrade Courses, Foreign License validations and conversions as well as advanced training using our own state of the art South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) approved type specific simulators. Our SACAA approved Cessna C208 is the only C208 type specific fixed base flight simulator of its kind in Africa.
We’ve held accreditations with the following civil aviation authorities:
Our history goes back to 1992
The goal from the outset was twofold, namely:
- To develop and establish the technological and engineering expertise and capability required to undertake local simulator development and manufacture in South Africa.
- To establish a regional training infrastructure for advanced simulator flight crew training based on fixed base, high fidelity, simulators equipped with out of the cockpit visual systems featuring detailed South African, African and World navigation and visual scenery databases.
With these goals set, the first range of basic instrument flight procedural trainers was brought to the South African market and approved by the then South African Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) in 1995. These were single pilot aviation training devices, complying to the DCA technical standards of the day.
A number of years of intensive research and development followed, leading to the production and delivery to Namibia of the first type specific Flight Simulation Training Device (FSTD), a FNPT II with single channel visuals for the Reims F406 Caravan II in 2002.
Two years and more research and development brought further enhancements in fidelity, the potential for multi-channel visual systems and better and more complete aircraft type specific systems simulation and emulation.
The first of this breed of Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTD’s), a Beechjet 400 FSTD, was delivered in mid 2005. Short on its heels followed a Bell Jet Ranger FSTD with 3 channel visual system in early 2006.
Later in 2006 these were complemented by the delivery of a Beech 1900D/200 FNPT II MCC to the Port Elizabeth campus of Airline Pilot Training Academy (APTRAC)/Simuflight and the commissioning of a second Beech 1900D/200 at the Simuflight Grand Central training facility. All FSTD’s were by then equipped with 3 channel, 140 degree horizontal field of view, visual systems. These featured a worldwide database and a detailed South African navigation and visual scenery database, containing amongst others most airports in South Africa. Further FSTD’s for turbine and piston powered aircraft were developed and delivered in the ensuing years. Evolving enhancements incorporated into these devices included Dynamic Control Loading, 5 Channel (250 degrees horizontal field of view) image generators and automated QTG’s.
